Sechs Oscar-Nominierungen, zwei Golden Globes, drei Emmys, drei Tonys und eine Vielzahl weiterer Preise und Nominierungen zieren die über 30 Jahre währende Karriere der Kino-, Fernseh- und Theaterschauspielerin Glenn Close. Zuletzt spielte sie die weibliche Hauptrolle in Bjorn Runges Romanverfilmung „The Wife“ (2017) an der Seite von Jonathan Pryce und Christian Slater. Außerdem gehörte sie zum prominenten Ensemble von Julian Fellows Agatha-Christie-Adaption „Crooked House“ (2017). 2016 spielte Glenn Close erneut ihre Tony-preisgekrönte Rolle der Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webbers Musical „Sunset Boulevard“ in einer neuen Produktion am London Coliseum. Für ihre Leistung erhielt sie den London Evening Standard Award und wurde für den Olivier Award nominiert. Auch bei den Gastspielen am New Yorker Broadway im Frühjahr 2017 stand Close auf der Bühne. Ihr Debüt als Filmschauspielerin gab Glenn Close 1982 in George Roy Hills „Garp und wie er die Welt sah“ („The World According to Garp“). Dafür erhielt sie ihre erste Nominierung für einen Oscar. Es folgten weitere Oscar-Nominierungen für „Der Große Frust“ („The Big Chill“, 1983), „Der Unbeugsame“ („The Natural“, 1984), „Eine verhängnisvolle Affäre“ („Fatal Attraction“, 1987) und „Gefährliche Liebschaften“ („Dangerous Liaisons“, 1988). Die sechste Oscar-Nominierung erhielt sie im Jahr 2012 für Rodrigo Garcías Drama „Albert Nobbs“. Das Drehbuch schrieb sie gemeinsam mit John Banville. Close war auch Produzentin des Films und arbeitete mit an der Musik zum Golden-Globe-nominierten Song „Lay Your Head Down.“ Bis 2012 spielte Close die Hauptrolle in fünf Staffeln der gefeierten Fernsehserie „Damages – Im Netz der Macht“ („Damages“). Für ihre eindrucksvolle Darstellung der Anwältin Patty Hewes erhielt Close unter anderem zwei Emmys und einen Golden Globe. Ihren ersten Golden Globe gewann sie 2005 für ihre Hauptrolle in Andrei Konchalovskys Fernsehfilm „Lion in Winter – Kampf um die Krone des Königs“ („The Lion in Winter“). Ihren ersten Emmy gewann sie 1995 für ihre Hauptrolle in „Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story“.
