Als Norman Howell vierzehn Jahre alt war, brachte ihm seine Rodeo-Karriere eine Rolle in dem Film „Die Cowboys“ (1971) ein. Der legendäre John Wayne, der zusammen mit Yakima Canutt als Pionier des modernen Filmkampfes gilt, brachte ihm seinen ersten Filmschlag bei. Dies weckte in Norman den Wunsch, Stuntarbeit der Schauspielerei vorzuziehen. Schon bald startete seine Karriere durch. Er doubelte John Travolta, Richard Chamberlain, Peter O'Toole, Bruce Willis, Mark Harmon und Dirk Benedict und war Roger Moores Stuntdouble in „007“. Normans Karriere als Stuntkoordinator begann mit „Footloose“, und Kevin Costner gab ihm dann seinen ersten großen Durchbruch als Stuntkoordinator bei „Der mit dem Wolf tanzt“ und als Second-Unit-Regisseur bei „Bodyguard“, „Open Range“ und „Mr. Brooks“. Norman Howells Professionalität, Kreativität und sein handwerkliches Können haben ihm einen Platz unter den besten Stuntkoordinatoren und Second-Unit-Regisseuren der Branche eingebracht.
