Eugene Curran Kelly (nato il 23 agosto 1912 a Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania, e morto il 2 febbraio 1996 a Beverly Hills, in California) è stato un attore, ballerino, cantante, coreografo, regista e produttore cinematografico statunitense, considerato una delle figure più importanti nella storia del musical hollywoodiano. Dopo gli inizi nel teatro e a Broadway, Kelly si trasferisce a Hollywood e debutta al cinema nel 1942. La sua carriera decolla con film come Cover Girl (1944), Due marinai e una ragazza (1945) e I tre moschettieri (1948), affermandosi per uno stile di danza atletico e innovativo. Raggiunge l'apice negli anni Cinquanta grazie a musical come Un giorno a New York (1949), Un americano a Parigi (1951), Cantando sotto la pioggia (1952), Brigadoon (1954) e Les Girls (1957). In particolare, Cantando sotto la pioggia, realizzato insieme a Stanley Donen, è considerato uno dei più celebri musical della storia del cinema. Come regista e coreografo, Kelly contribuisce a rivoluzionare il linguaggio del musical cinematografico, integrando la danza direttamente nella narrazione. Tra i suoi successivi lavori figurano È sempre bel tempo (1955), Hello, Dolly! (1969) e Xanadu (1980). Nel corso della sua carriera riceve numerosi riconoscimenti, tra cui un Oscar onorario nel 1952 per il suo contributo all'arte della coreografia cinematografica. Gene Kelly rimane una delle personalità più influenti dell'età d'oro di Hollywood e una delle icone assolute della danza e del musical sul grande schermo.
