Joe Gardner ist ein Mittelschullehrer mit einer Liebe zur Jazzmusik. Nach einem erfolgreichen Auftritt im Half Note Club wird er plötzlich in einen Unfall verwickelt, der seine Seele von seinem Körper trennt und in das You Seminar transportiert wird, ein Zentrum, in dem Seelen sich entwickeln und Leidenschaften gewinnen, bevor sie zu einem neugeborenen Kind transportiert werden. Joe muss die Hilfe der anderen Seelen in Ausbildung in Anspruch nehmen, wie 22, eine Seele, die Äonen im You Seminar verbracht hat, um zurück auf die Erde zu gelangen.
