Der US-amerikanische Schauspieler John Travolta ist einer der Überflieger in Hollywood – im wortwörtlichen Sinne. Denn neben seiner großen Liebe zur Schauspielerei pflegt der Filmstar schon seit vielen Jahren auch seine Passion für das Fliegen, besitzt eine Privatfluglizenz und mehrere Flugzeuge, darunter sogar eine Boeing 707, die normalerweise rund 200 Personen fasst. Mit nur zwölf Jahren begann John Travolta Schauspielunterricht zu nehmen und brach vier Jahre später die Highschool ab, um sich Vollzeit der Schauspielerei widmen zu können. Zunächst in kleinen Rollen war der Schauspielstar vor allem auf der Bühne zu sehen. Mit 18 schloss er sich, damals selbst noch völlig unbekannt, dem Ensemble des Musicals Grease an und tourte durch die USA. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt rechnete John Travolta wohl noch nicht damit, nur wenige Jahre später durch seine Hauptrolle in der gleichnamigen Verfilmung des Musicals zum weltbekannten Hollywood-Star zu werden. Nach den Publikumserfolgen Grease und Nur Samstag Nacht (Saturday Night Fever) wurde es zunächst wieder ruhiger um Travolta, bis er 1994 mit seiner Rolle in Pulp Fiction endgültig durchstartete und Teil der etablierten Schauspielszene Hollywoods wurde. 2009 musste John Travolta einen harten Schlag in seinem Privatleben einstecken, als sein 16-jähriger Sohn Jett an einem Krampfanfall starb. Jett war der älteste der gemeinsamen Kinder von John Travolta und seiner Frau, der Schauspielerin Kelly Preston.
