Brendan Gleeson est un acteur irlandais. Ses films les plus connus comprennent les films Harry Potter, Braveheart, Gangs of New York, 28 jours plus tard, et le rôle de Michael Collins dans The Treaty. Il a remporté un Emmy award en 2009 pour son portrait de Winston Churchill dans le film Into the Storm. Gleeson est né à Dublin, en Irlande, et s'est décrit comme un lecteur passionné lorsqu'il était enfant. Après avoir quitté l'école pendant un court moment, il a travaillé pendant deux ans dans un bureau avec un conseil de santé. Il est ensuite diplômé de l'University College Dublin et a poursuivi ses études à la Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) de Londres. Juste après avoir terminé le cours d'art dramatique de 3 ans chez RADA, Gleeson a construit un CV très respectable au Royal National Theatre, au Shakespeare's Globe Theatre et à la Royal Shakespeare Company à Stratford-upon-Avon-Avon. Gleeson s'est fait connaître pour sa présence scénique tremblante, en particulier dans des œuvres de William Shakespeare comme King Lear, Richard III et Hamlet. Gleeson a commencé sa carrière cinématographique à l'âge de 34 ans. Il s'est d'abord fait connaître en Irlande pour son rôle de Michael Collins dans The Treaty, un film télévisé diffusé sur RTÉ One, et pour lequel il a remporté un Jacob's Award en 1992. Gleeson a ensuite joué dans plus de 60 films dont Braveheart, I Went Down, Michael Collins, Gangs of New York, Cold Mountain, 28 Days Later, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Lake Placid, Artificial Intelligence : AI et le Village. Il a été acclamé par la critique pour sa performance en tant que gangster irlandais Martin Cahill dans le film The General de John Boorman en 1998. Gleeson vit à Malahide, dans le comté de Dublin. C'est un violoniste talentueux qui s'intéresse au folklore irlandais. On peut le trouver de temps en temps en jouant de la musique traditionnelle seisiúins dans le pub Hughes dans Chancery Street à Dublin 7. Son frère, Barry Gleeson, est un chanteur bien connu dans le club de chanteurs traditionnels An Góilín, et son fils Domhnall est acteur. Gleeson est connu pour son amour du football et raconte des histoires d'avoir essayé d'obtenir une réception radio claire pour pouvoir écouter comment son équipe, Aston Villa, se débrouillait un samedi.
