Lin Shaye (nata il 12 ottobre 1943 a Detroit, nel Michigan) è un'attrice statunitense, conosciuta per la sua lunga carriera nel cinema e in televisione e, in particolare, per le sue numerose interpretazioni nel genere horror. Dopo aver studiato recitazione all'Università del Michigan, Shaye si trasferì a New York, dove iniziò a lavorare in teatro prima di trasferirsi a Los Angeles e intraprendere la carriera cinematografica. Debuttò sul grande schermo nel 1975 con Hester Street e negli anni successivi costruì una solida carriera come attrice caratterista, apparendo in numerose produzioni cinematografiche e televisive. Nel corso degli anni Ottanta e Novanta lavorò prevalentemente in commedie e film di genere, partecipando a pellicole come Critters (1986), Critters 2 (1988), Detroit Rock City (1999) e Scary Movie (2000). La sua capacità di passare con naturalezza dalla commedia al thriller e all'horror le permise di diventare una presenza familiare per il pubblico americano. La sua consacrazione nel cinema horror arrivò con Insidious (2010) di James Wan, nel quale interpretò Elise Rainier, una sensitiva specializzata nell'affrontare fenomeni paranormali. Il successo del film trasformò il personaggio in uno dei più importanti della saga e Shaye tornò a interpretarlo nei successivi capitoli Insidious 2 (2013), Insidious 3 - L'inizio (2015), Insidious - L'ultima chiave (2018) e Insidious - La porta rossa (2023). Parallelamente alla saga di Insidious, Shaye ha continuato a lavorare in numerosi film horror e thriller, tra cui Ouija (2014), The Grudge (2020) e diversi progetti indipendenti, consolidando la propria reputazione come una delle attrici caratteriste più riconoscibili del genere. Nel corso di una carriera durata diversi decenni, Lin Shaye ha dimostrato una notevole versatilità, alternando commedia, dramma e horror.
