Robert John Downey, Jr. (* 4. April 1965) ist ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler. Downey gab sein Leinwanddebüt 1970 im Alter von fünf Jahren, als er in "Pound", einem Film seines Vaters, auftrat. Seitdem arbeitete er stets in Film und Fernsehen. Während der 1980er Jahre hatte er Rollen in einer Reihe von Coming-of-Age-Filmen, welche häufig mit dem sogenannten "Brat Pack" in Verbindung gebracht werden. Der Film "Less Than Zero" (1987) ist besonders bemerkenswert - nicht nur weil es das erste Mal war, dass Downeys Schauspiel von Kritikern anerkannt wurde, sondern auch, weil die Rolle sein bereits existierendes Drogenverhalten noch einen Schritt weiter trieb. Nach dieser Verfilmung erhielt Downey Rollen in größeren Filmen wie "Air America" (1990), "Soapdish" (1991) und "Natural Born Killers" (1994). Er spielte Charlie Chaplin in dem Film "Chaplin" von 1992, für den er eine Oscar-Nominierung als Bester Schauspieler erhielt.
