Sharon Yvonne Stone (* 10. März 1958 in Meadville, Pennsylvania) ist eine US-amerikanische Filmschauspielerin. Ihren Durchbruch als Hauptdarstellerin hatte sie 1992 mit dem erotischen Thriller Basic Instinct. Für ihre Rolle in dem Film Casino war sie für einen Oscar nominiert. Ihre Schauspielkarriere begann 1980 mit einer Rolle in Woody Allens Stardust Memories. Danach gab sie die „schöne Frau an der Seite des Helden“ in Filmen wie Police Academy 4, Action Jackson und 1990 in Die totale Erinnerung – Total Recall mit Arnold Schwarzenegger. Berühmt wurde sie 1992 durch ihre Rolle in Paul Verhoevens Erotikthriller Basic Instinct, für die sie eine Nominierung für den Golden Globe, aber auch für die Goldene Himbeere erhielt. Anschließend versuchte sie vergeblich, diesen Erfolg mit weiteren erotischen Rollen in Sliver und The Specialist zu wiederholen. Für ihre Leistung in Martin Scorseses Casino erhielt sie schließlich einen Golden Globe und eine Nominierung für den Oscar. Weitere Golden-Globe-Nominierungen erhielt sie für The Mighty und für Die Muse. Trotz ihrer Auftritte in Casino, The Mighty, Last Dance und Gloria galt sie bald als Kassengift. 2004 versuchte sie mit dem Film Catwoman an der Seite von Halle Berry ein Comeback. Der Film floppte bei Kritik und Publikum gleichermaßen. Ende Dezember 2005 wirkte sie in zwei Folgen der türkischen Serie Kurtlar Vadisi mit; ihre Gage spendete sie Tsunami-Opfern. 2006 kam unter dem Titel Basic Instinct – Neues Spiel für Catherine Tramell eine Fortsetzung von Basic Instinct in die Kinos. Während Stone für ihre Darstellung durchaus Lob erntete, konnte der Film die in ihn gesteckten kommerziellen Erwartungen nicht erfüllen. Neben Filmen wirkte sie auch als Gaststar in verschiedenen Serien mit. 1984 hatte sie einen Auftritt in der Serie Magnum, wo sie zu Beginn der 5. Staffel in der Doppelfolge Schwarzer Spiegel (O: Echos of the mind) mitspielte. 2003 war sie für drei Folgen in der Serie Practice – Die Anwälte zu sehen. 2010 gehörte sie für vier Folgen zum Ensemble von Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
