Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson (nato il 3 gennaio 1956) è un attore, regista, produttore e sceneggiatore. Nato a Peekskill, New York, Gibson si trasferì con i suoi genitori a Sydney, in Australia, quando aveva 12 anni e in seguito studiò recitazione all'Australian National Institute of Dramatic Art. Dopo essere apparso nelle serie "Mad Max" e "Arma letale", Gibson ha continuato a dirigere e recitare nel film vincitore dell'Oscar "Braveheart" (1995). Nel 2004 ha diretto e prodotto "La passione di Cristo", un film controverso ma di successo che ritrae le ultime ore della vita di Gesù Cristo.
